Art Class for Kids at North Park
3rd Session 2001

Starts April 14 - ends May 19, art exhibit May 19, 2001

April 14

John Singer Sargent
(1856-1925)

Born in the Us but raised in Europe, he studied art to become one of the best.

Never tired of painting, drawing and watercoloring, he is a great witness of his time.

April 21

Gustav Klimt
(1862-1918)

Art Nouveau

At the age of thirty he moved into his own studio and turned to easel painting. At thirty-five he was one of the founders of the Vienna Secession...

April 28

Paul Klee
1879-1940

Klee valued the "primitive," and especially the art of children. He envied their polymorphous freedom to create signs, and respected their innocence and directness.

Many of his paintings are a form of writing: they pullulate with signs, arrows, floating letters, misplaced directions, commas, and clefs.

May 5

Egyptian Art

Egypt is the land of the pyramids, those mountains of stone which stand like weathered landmarks on the distant horizon of history.

No king, and no people would have gone to such expense, and taken so much trouble, for the creation of a mere monument. In fact, we know that the pyramids had their practical importance in the eyes of the kings and their subjects.

May 12

Antonio Gaudì
(1852-1926)

Nouveau style--Gaudí was a profoundly religious man who enthusiastically accepted work on the project that was to be the new cathedral, the Sagrada Familia and many other buildings in Barcelona.

May 19
